The Livewire EP released on Fierce Panda on May 30th

With a touring itinerary that would test the most road-weary of bands, BlackBud are fast gaining a reputation as one of the hardest working groups around. It’s a schedule on which they flourish, an opportunity to hone their live skills and road test new material. And it’s paying dividends. In the two years since their inception, BlackBud’s performances, both here and abroad, have helped establish them as one of most exciting new bands in the UK.

Joe Taylor, Sam Nadel and Adam Newton have been steeped in music from an early age, taking up their chosen instruments before their teens and experimenting with a variety of musical styles including jazz, classical and blues. They came together as BlackBud in 2002 when Sam (drums) and Joe (guitar, vocals) stepped in to help Adam (bass) when his band-mates failed to turn up for a gig. A series of practise sessions ensued during which they discovered a shared appreciation for such groundbreaking artists as Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the Buckleys and Radiohead. Over time, whilst these influences came to provide the backbone, each band member has brought their own influences and ideas to the table, making BlackBud’s sound very much their own.

BlackBud’s music is constantly evolving but the fundamentals remain the same; Joe’s sublime vocals, hook-laden melodies, deft arrangements, in short well-crafted songs performed by talented musicians. Their debut EP gives a flavour of what’s to come and features three songs; Forever, Lost In Time and 158. The band plan to release their debut album later this year.

Following a packed out show at the latest Fierce Panda night, BlackBud announce further dates for May/June. These include a headlining show as part of the Budweiser New Music Festival at London’s Dublin Castle on May 24th and an appearance on The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival on June 24th. Other dates confirmed are May 10th, GUILDFORD, The Star ; June 8th, MANCHESTER, Night And Day.

BlackBud are currently in Olympic Studios recording the follow up to the Livewire EP with producer Youth (Verve, Paul McCartney, Beth Orton).
